The geological term “golden spike” refers to global chronostratigraphic unit (GSSP). The D section in Meishan Hill, Changxing, is the biggest boundary stratotype section in the development of the earth. Its international reputation has been established since Professor Zhang Kexin in China University of Geoscience found the conondont fossil at the bottom of 27C in the D Section. This “golden spike” is the boundary marker of the Permian and Triassic, and also the Paleozoic and Mesozoic. It is one of the 3 biggest “golden spike”. Its discovery represents the country’s highest scientific honor in the stratigraphic research field.

The geological museum with a construction area of 4000 square meters is divided into six exhibition halls: the hall of the mysterious earth, the hall of life evolution, the hall of grind ore formation, the hall of “golden spike”, the hall of ancient geography of Changxing and popular science demonstration hall. It will be a holy place of scientific exploration for Chinese and foreign experts and an education forum of popularization of science for the youth.

In this museum, with the use of the graphic and fossil specimens, the origin of life on earth is demonstrated, and various types of fossils and photos reflecting Changxing Section are shown. It also imitates the life scenes of ancient creatures and the ancient geographical and ecological landscape.

The most significant collection in this museum is an enlarged conodont model, which is recognized as the golden spike of the highest level by the International Union of Geological Sciences.

The golden spike in Changxing geological relics reservation is a boundary marker of 3 most important dynastic lines in the history of the earth (former Paleozoic Paleozoic Mesozoic Paleozoic, Mesozoic Cenozoic), so it has international significance and high scientific research value.

Changxing Geological Relics Reservation is located at the border of the Town of Meishan and Huaikan, limestone section. In 1931, Changxing limestone was named after “Changxing” by Grabau, an American scientist. It is the first stratigraphic unit under the name of a place.
