Majunxiang gains its name from being once stationed by cavalrymen fighting the Jin invaders. Han Shizhong (1089-1151), a famous brave, ambitious and skillful anti-Jin general in the Southern Song Dynasty, stationed his military camp in the east of today’s Tiaoxi Park, which was part of General Han’s defence area at that time and the original location of Majunxiang Community. After 1194, this area turned into a residential area named Majunyingxiang. After the Ming Dynasty, its name was changed into Majunxiang, but was renamed Junmingxiang during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). It has been officially called Majunxiang in 1980. In the 1970s, when Shihe River was dredged, an intact tile bottle was unearthed near Linhu Bridge, which turned out to be a water bottle used by soldiers in the Song Dynasty.
