August 15 this year marks the second National Ecological Day. Yesterday morning, the 2024 Green and Low-Carbon Innovation Conference with the theme of “Promoting Energy Transformation and Development, Jointly Building a Clean and Beautiful World” opened in Huzhou. Shu Wei, full-time vice-president and executive secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology, Lu Shan, vice-governor of Zhejiang Province, Si Jianmin, deputy director of the 13th Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress and president of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, Jean-Paul Jean-Paul Lainé and Elies Molins, presidents of the World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW), Chan Ewe Jin, president of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore(IES), Chen Hao, secretary of the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee, and Hong Hupeng, deputy secretary of the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Huzhou, attended. Wu Xiaodong, secretary of the Party group and vice-president of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, presided over the event.
Leaders of Huzhou such as Wu Zhiyong, Yang Weidong, and Shi Yiting, and Miao Weilun, a leader of Taizhou, attended. More than 10 academicians from home and abroad, relevant officials of the China Science and Technology Development Foundation, representatives of member units of the “Science and Technology Innovation China” Green and Low-Carbon Innovation Consortium, representatives of universities, experts and scholars, representatives of new research institutions, representatives of scientific and technological workers, representatives of venture capital institutions, and officials from relevant provincial and municipal units participated.
At the opening ceremony, the top ten scientific and technological innovation achievements in carbon peak and carbon neutrality in China in 2023, the book “Clear Waters and Green Mountains Are Invaluable Assets - The Practice of Ecological Civilization Construction in Huzhou”, and the “Report on the Green City Index of Biodiversity in Huzhou (2024)” and “Report on the Green and Low-Carbon Life Index of Huzhou (2024)”were released. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Li Jiabiao and Gao Xiang, foreign academician of the CAE John Loughhead, Dalson Chung, a senior expert of the National Environment Agency of Singapore and former president of the IES, successively delivered keynote reports.
This conference was hosted by the China Science and Technology Development Foundation, the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, the CPCHuzhou Municipal Committee, and the Huzhou Municipal People's Government. On the afternoon of August 15th, experts and scholars attending the conference conducted exchanges and discussions on themes such as carbon neutrality and energy intelligent connection, green transformation and development of energy, and digitalization leading the green and low-carbon transformation and development of high-end equipment. At the same time, the 96th Executive Committee of the WFSW held discussions on green and low-carbon development and the responsibilities of scientists, and a green and low-carbon technology application scenario exhibition and other activities were also held. It is learned that some of the participating guests will go to Yucun Village, Anji County on August 16th to carry out the popular science activity of “Big Hands Holding Small Hands, Journey toward Ecological Civilization”.
