Lianhuazhuang Park (Lotus Flower Park) is located in the southeast of Huzhou City. The former address is Nanyuan Primary School, which has beautiful scenes and is a place of interest of Wuxing Shire. Several hundred years, the park is famous for blue water, lotuses in the breeze, and charming scenery in the south of Yangtze River. Zhao Mengfu, the painting master and calligrapher of Yuan Dynasty, built his residence and named it “Lianhuazhuang Park (Lotus Flower Park)”. Zhao mengfu once was Hanlin Academy of Scholar, so it also was called “Xueshizhuang (Bachelor Village)”.
Lianhuazhuang Village (Lotus Flower Village) is the place for Zhao Mengfu to study when he was a child, have a rest while middle aged man, and live when he was an old man. The village still kept well in Ming Dynasty, but wholly destroyed in the late years of Qing Dynasty and was in ruins. In 1986 the government of Huzhou City repaired it according to the historical record in the south of the former place, and put Qianyuan House (the private residence of Gui’an’s well-known bibliophileLu Xinyuan in Qing Dynasty) into together. The total area is 112 mu, among which 1/3 is water, and there are three scenic attractions. The 1986 rebuilt is designed very carefully to restore the original appearance of the famous garden, combining lotus flowers and calligraphy works, garden and historical relic. The rebuilt Lianhuazhuang Village (Lotus Flower Village) has different scenery in different seasons. In the park, there are many calligraphy works created by modern times’ celebrities, such as Wu Zuoren, Huang Miaozi, Wu Xiaoru, Wang Qiuye, Feng Qiyong, Guo Zhongxue, Qin Zhonglian and so on.
Nowadays, Lianhuazhuang (Lotus Flower Village) has breeze and blue waters, splashing springs, beautiful fishes, chasing boats, stone bridges, picturesque peaks and rocks, pavilions and towers, willows in spring, lotuses in summer, chrysanthemums and maples dyed by frost, pines and bamboos reflected by snow. Scenes change according to different four seasons and persons. You will see and appreciate different scenes at any time. The park opened to the public in the Spring Festival of 1987 and became a main cultural tourism attraction from then on.
