The Yishang Street
The Yishang Street, a historic and cultural reservation district in Huzhou, is located in the commercial center of the old downtown Huzhou. It is east to the Baojian Lane and the Wupen Lane, west to the South Street, north to the Hongqi Road and the south of Huzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital, south to the Jinpo Lane and Gantang Bridge. It covers an area of 8.6 hectares, with a construction area of about 58, 000 square meters.
Recently there are new plans, slightly larger than the scope of the previous plan on a designated block level planning range with an area of 10.85 hectares, consisting of two parts: the Yishang block and the Red Gate Hall Street block. The permanent residents of the Historic Street area are 3200. The total construction area is 109, 700 square meters, in which, the planned reserve area is 14, 600 square meters, the renovated construction area is 39,700 square meters, the rectification area is 28, 300 square meters. The demolished buildings are mainly tier buildings in the residential district. The removed area is 27, 100 square meters. The area of the improved newly-built buildings based on the original texture is16, 000 square meters.
The Yishang Street block will become a historic street site, with multi-functions including commerce, culture, leisure, entertainment, tourism and residential functions. It will reflect fully the characteristics of the historic district of Huzhou, reflecting the traditional commercial culture of Huzhou at the end of the Qing Dynasty and the traditional residential culture and traditional Jiangnan water features of the city.
