Handling procedure

1. Chinese residents and foreigners:

mainland residents should provide:

a) household register (the original and copy, or resident certification issued by local police station); b) the resident’s ID card (the original and copy); c) signed statement about having no spouse in the flesh and having no relationship by consanguinity with the opposite party such as lineal descent and collateral relative by blood within three generations; d) three recently taken photos (two-inch half-length, bareheaded and full-faced photo).

Foreigners should provide:

a) valid passport or other valid international travel documents(the original and copy); b) the papers about having no spouse should be issued by the notarization organization or authorities in his country and authenticated by Chinese embassy in his country or his country’s embassy in China, or just issued by his country’s embassy in China.

  2. Mainland residents and overseas Chinese: documents that mainland residents should provide with are the same as Chinese residents.

  Overseas Chinese should provide:

  a) personal valid passport (the original and copy); b) papers issued by the notarization organization or authorities in his country and authenticated by Chinese embassy in his country that prove having no spouse in the flesh and having no relationship by consanguinity with the opposite party such as lineal descent and collateral relative by blood within three generations; or the papers issued by his country’s embassy in China that proves having no spouse in the flesh and having no relationship by consanguinity with the opposite party such as lineal descent and collateral relative by blood within three generations.
  

  3. Mainland residents and residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan: documents that mainland residents should provide with are the same as Chinese residents.

  Residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan should provide: a) personal valid passport, ID card(the original and copy); b) papers authenticated by the notarization organization in his country that prove having no spouse in the flesh and having no relationship by consanguinity with the opposite party such as lineal descent and collateral relative by blood within three generations.
