The Origin of Silk in the world
Font:【Big In Small

Huzhou is renowned as “the origin of silk in the world”. The city's sericulture tradition is crystallized in Balidian Town, where the silk artifacts excavated from the Qianshanyang relics in Lu Village are celebrated as the world’s earliest silk fabrics produced by domestic silkworms, initiating more than 4000 years of the world’s sericulture history. Silk products produced in Huzhou had been used as articles of tribute since the Han Dynasty. Huzhou Silk used to dominate the world’s silk market, winning the gold medal in 1851 London Expo, which marked the earliest participation of China in the World Expo, and the beginning of the inseparable bond between Huzhou and the World Expo. Huzhou silk also won first prize at the 1911 Italian Industrial Expo, the gold and silver medals at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Expo and the special award at the first West Lake Expo in China in 1930, etc.
