At 5:55 p.m. Beijing time last night, the rowing event of the Paris Paralympics was held in the Vaires-sur-Marne Water Sports Center. Huzhou athlete Jiang Jijian and his teammate Liu Shuang delivered a strong performance, gaining a silver medal in the PR2 mixed double sculls final with a time of 8 minutes and 23.45 seconds.
Jiang and Liu entered the final after finishing the first round in their race. When the race began, they shot off the starting line like arrows. Throughout the race, they paddled vigorously across the wide waterway, and their seamless teamwork ultimately earned them a commendable second-place finish.
Born in 1992, Jiang Jijian has faced up different challenges due to a disability in his lower leg since childhood. However, he has never let this deter him. At the age of 23, he was selected for the Zhejiang Province Disabled Rowing Team, marking the beginning of his athletic career.
Through relentless effort and dedicated training, Jiang has emerged as a rising star in the field of adaptive rowing in recent years. "Jiang Jijian's silver medal is the best result achieved by Huzhou's disabled athletes at the Paralympics," said Yang Changhai, Secretary of the Municipal Disabled Persons' Federation and Chairman.
