On the afternoon of June 17th local time, the 2nd China-Central Asia Summit was held at the Independence Palace in the Kazakh capital of Astana. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presided over the meeting. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the Summit. The heads of states reviewed the achievements of China-Central Asia cooperation in various fields since the Xi’an Summit in a friendly atmosphere and looked forward to the future development direction. Then they unanimously decided to champion the “China-Central Asia Spirit”, adhere to permanent good-neighborliness, and work together to promote the construction of a China-Central Asia community with a shared future, constantly making new achievements.
Xi Jinping took a group photo with the leaders of the five Central Asian countries and then attended the summit, delivering a keynote speech titled “Championing the China Central Asia Spirit for High-quality Cooperation in the Region”.
During the summit, Xi and leaders of the five Central Asian Countries signed “the Astana Declaration of the Second China Central Asia Summit” and “the Treaty of Permanent Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan”.
