On June 24th, the first “Good Samaritans of China” list for 2025 was announced, with Ke Xiangxiang, a resident from Huzhou, making the honor roll.
Ke Xiangxiang takes charge of the Ke Liheng Silk Tapestry Workshop in Qianyuan Town, Deqing County. As the only inheritor of the Kesi silk tapestry weaving technique in Zhejiang Province, he has persevered through challenges to keep the craft alive by taking over the county’s last remaining “Kesi Silk Tapestry Workshop”. For over 30 years, he has dedicated himself to the art with meticulous craftsmanship, pioneering innovative techniques such as the “ripple pattern” fabric and over a dozen unique weaving methods. He has creatively integrated Kesi into cultural products, launching a “Kesi+” series, collaborating with universities to develop China-chic and Shanghai-style cultural Kesi collections, and revitalizing the traditional craft. Actively participating in intangible cultural heritage exhibitions, Ke Xiangxiang has organized over 100 events to promote Kesi in communities, schools, scenic spots, museums, and expos, helping the craft and its cultural products take root locally and gain international recognition. Deqing has thus become Zhejiang’s hub for Kesi craftsmanship.
In recent years, Huzhou has leveraged the “Beautiful China, Dynamic Huzhou” campaign as a driving force to cultivate moral role models, gathering momentum around the ethos of “Strive with Practical Actions, Fight for Excellence with Dedication”. Our city has witnessed a cumulative emergence of 11 national moral models and nominees, as well as 52 individuals honored as “Good Samaritans of China”. The number of moral exemplars at or above the provincial level ranks among the top in the Zhejiang province.
