On July 14th, our city was invited to the 2025 United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, with a focus on introducing Huzhou’s practical experience in sustainable development under the guidance of the concept that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.
At the event site, our city shared the practical achievements and cases of sustainable development from four aspects: ecology, industry, culture, and urban and rural areas. The Taihu Lake Longemont Paradise, which used to be a huge group of abandoned mines, has been transformed it to a global large cultural and tourism complex through restorative development; Huzhou, one of the first national pilot zones for green finance reform and innovations, has taken the lead in systematically promoting green finance reform and innovation practices since 2017, unlocking the challenges of sustainable investment; the mulberry-dyke fish pond system, which is known as the “living fossil” of world agricultural civilization, has been passed down for over 2500 years through a cycle of “fish farming in the pond, mulberry planting on the pond dyke, sericulture with mulberry leaves, feeding fish with silkworm excrement, fertilizing the pond with fish manure, and reinforcing the mulberry with pond mud”; Anji’s Yucun Village, under the continuous guidance of scientific village planning, has become a national demonstration village for beautiful and livable living, and has been selected as one of the first batch of the world’s best tourist villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
In recent years, by adhering to ecological priority and green development, our city has embarked on a sustainable development path of thriving ecosystems, booming industries and prosperous living. In 2022, our city was named the only national sustainable development agenda innovation demonstration area in the Yangtze River Delta, with its sustainable development index ranking first in the country for two consecutive years. At the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), our city was recognized as a “Demonstration Zone for International Cooperation on Ecological Civilization”.
