Huzhou adheres to the synchronous development of "beautiful cities, beautiful towns, and beautiful villages" and has been awarded the "Ten Consecutive Excellence" in the Beautiful Zhejiang assessment. Its garbage classification work has been rated as the first in the same category of cities in China. Huzhou took the lead in formulating the national standard for "Beautiful Village Construction Guidelines" and pioneered the "River Chief System." It is the first ecological civilization demonstration zone at the municipal level in China and one of the first national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities. The 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity recognized Huzhou as the world's only international cooperation demonstration zone for ecological civilization. It has been selected as a member of the "Global Nature City" platform and the first "Biodiversity Charm City."
